Clyde's Diary January

Hi everyone!

Can you believe there is now less than six months to go until the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games? We can now say that Scotland’s biggest ever sporting and cultural event will take place THIS summer. I can’t wait.

It’s not just me that’s super excited. I’ve been busy surprising teachers and pupils across Scotland with a very special award – the Game On Scotland plaque – which recognises the fantastic ways schools have been getting involved with the Games. Well done everybody.

It was awesome to see live squash , netball and athletics action at events in Glasgow this month. The atmosphere was electric, and the sports fans really enjoyed getting a taste of the world-class competition that’s to come at the Games. I even got to meet Team Scotland’s Eilidh Child at the British Athletics International Match in the Emirates Arena. I have to admit, I was totally star struck!

As anticipation for the XX Commonwealth Games continues to build here in Scotland, the Queen’s Baton Relay has been drumming up excitement in Africa, where the baton even went scuba diving off the coast of the Seychelles. Here’s a pretty cool fact – Blantyre in Malawi is named after the Scottish hometown of Victorian explorer, David Livingstone!

Have you checked out the Culture 2014 programme yet? There are loads of fun events all over Scotland to choose from! Big Big Sing is a nationwide celebration of singing, which includes a songwriting competition for school pupils. If you’re inspired by the Games, why not give it a go?

Before I sign off, just a reminder that we are currently recruiting for Ceremonies Volunteer Cast Performers. If you know any enthusiastic people (aged 18 or over) who would be interested in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, let them know applications close on Friday 14 February 2014!

Did you know I have my very own Twitter account? You can follow me @Clyde2014 for updates on my exciting adventures in our journey to the Games.
