When will I receive my clyde-sider shifts?
Some people in roles starting in advance of the Games have already been issued with early versions of their shifts and the majority of clyde-siders will receive a ‘roster’ from April 2014.
When will I receive my Uniform and Accreditation?
We’ll start sending invitations to our Uniform and Accreditation Centre from spring 2014; we’ll make sure that you have everything you need in time for your first shift.
What training will I receive?
We’ve put together a comprehensive training programme, which will be delivered in 2014, to prepare you for every challenge.
- The first module is called Orientation. This is your introduction to the Games and much more. Within a couple of weeks of accepting your role offer you’ll receive an invitation to join us in March 2014 at the Emirates Arena for this incredible event.
- Your Role-Specific Training will be held at another iconic Games venue – Hampden Park. This module will provide you with everything you need to perform your individual Games Time role. Timings for your Role Specific Training will be confirmed by early 2014.
- Your Venue Specific Training will help you to understand the important practicalities of your Games Time ‘home’ and in most cases will be held at the venue where you will be based. Timings for your Role Specific Training will be confirmed by early 2014.
- If you’ve been offered a Team Leader role, you’ll also be invited to attend our Event Leadership Training module.
Is it possible to swap my role or my venue?
Due to the scale of our volunteer recruitment programme, it’s not possible to change the role or venue you have been offered. We’ve tried to take individual preferences into account but this hasn’t been possible in every case.
Don’t be put off if what you have been offered isn’t your first choice, every volunteer will be vital to the success of the Games and your training will ensure you’re ready for every challenge.

Why have I been asked to volunteer at more than one venue?
You could be involved at a venue that is only open for a few days or have skills we need at more than one of our events. Don’t worry, your training will ensure you’re ready for every challenge and you’re going to have the opportunity to see even more of the Games!

What happens if I have tickets for an event at the same time as one of my volunteer shifts?
We’ll ask you to prioritise your commitments as a volunteer, which in most cases will be a minimum of 8 days during the Games. This means it’s possible you could find yourself with tickets you are unable to use.
If my volunteer application is successful, will I be entitled to free or discounted tickets?
Rather than offering free or discounted ticket schemes, our aim has always been to make tickets for the Games as accessible as possible to everyone.
So although you won’t be entitled to any special discounts if you are successful, you will be involved in making Scotland’s biggest ever sporting and cultural event happen.
When will I find out the outcome of my interview/application?
We will communicate application and interview outcomes from October 2013 until close to Games Time, although in most cases candidates will know the outcome of their applications by early 2014. We realise this could mean you have to wait a long time to discover if you’ve been successful. Please be patient, the timescales are the result of the volume of candidates involved – we’ll still be selecting and interviewing potential volunteers in December 2013 (and in a small number of cases early 2014).
How will you check if I am eligible to work in the UK?
If we invite you to an interview, we’ll ask you to bring documentation with you confirming your right to work in the UK. We’ll take a photocopy of the documents you provide.
The list below shows the main documents we will be able to accept at the interview stage as evidence of your eligibility to work:
- A passport showing that you are a British citizen or a citizen of the UK and Colonies having the right of abode in the UK.
- A passport or national identity card showing that you are a national of the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
- A residence permit, registration certificate or document certifying or indicating permanent residence issued by the Home Office, Border and Immigration Agency or UK Border Agency to a national of a European Economic Area country or Switzerland.
- A full birth certificate issued in the UK which includes the name(s) of at least one of your parents, and (ii) an official document giving your permanent National Insurance Number and name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer (such as a P45 or P60).
- An Immigration Status Document issued by the UK Home Office, Border and Immigration Agency or UK Border Agency to you with an endorsement indicating that you are allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK or you have no time limit on your stay in the UK, and (i) an official document giving your permanent National Insurance Number and name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer (such as a P45 or P60).
- An Application Registration Card issued by the Home Office, Border and Immigration Agency or UK Border Agency stating that the holder is permitted to take employment (please note that we are required to verify this document with the UK Border Agency).

I can’t access the volunteer portal. What should I do?
At busy times, you may experience a slower than usual response from the Volunteer Portal and increased loading times as you move between pages.
If you are experiencing persistent problems, check which internet browser you are using and try an alternative such as Internet Explorer versions 6-9, Google Chrome or Firefox.
If you’re having trouble logging in from your place of work, this could be due to the security settings there. Where this is the case, we suggest trying again from a computer at another location.
